Our Mission
Our ideas will be groundbreaking, and our stewardship will be forever mindful of the ground we live on.
Hardwood Veneer
Columbia Forest Products is the largest manufacturer of rotary hardwood veneer in North America. Specializing in Northern Appalachian hardwoods, veneers from 1/28″ to 1/42″ in thickness are produced for both domestic and export markets.
ANSI/HPVA defines veneer as “a thin sheet of wood, rotary cut, sliced, or sawed from a log, bolt or flitch.”
Birch, red oak, maple, ash, poplar, cherry and other species of fancy veneer are supplied throughout the decorative plywood, furniture, cabinetry, door and profile-wrap industries.
Hardwood Plywood
Columbia Forest Products currently manufactures hardwood plywood in seven plants throughout the United States and Canada. Our decorative interior veneers and panels are used in high-end cabinetry, fine furniture, architectural millwork and commercial fixtures.
ANSI/HPVA defines hardwood plywood as “a panel composed of an assembly of layers or plies of veneer or veneers in combination with lumber core, particleboard core, MDF core, hardboard core, or of a special core material joined with an adhesive. Except for special constructions, the grain of alternate plies is at right angles and the face veneer is a hardwood species.”
Environmental mission and strategy (ESG)
In 1999, Columbia’s Klamath Falls, Oregon, plant began producing its plywood using logs harvested from Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC®) certified forestland. Today all of Columbia’s plywood and veneer mills hold FSC chain of custody certified by Rainforest Alliance, an independent, non-governmental organization with the published aims of working to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. By buying products with an FSC label you are supporting the growth of responsible forest management worldwide.
In addition to being FSC Certified, our products are formaldehyde-free, we use soy based glue and are LEED® compliant and Living Building Challenge® certified
