Environmental mission and strategy (ESG)
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
Chain of Custody certified since 2000, we strive to use as much FSC-Certified wood as possible. This means more sustainable timber for your project and a healthier planet for us all.
Building Energies Bottom Lines (BEBL) & NESEA
As members of BEBL and NESEA, we work with other like-minded companies in the North Eastern US to idea share on how best to work towards sustainable business that aims to fight climate change through the built environment.
Green Efforts
Our Farmington, NY office runs on 400+ solar panels and we use our timber scraps to heat our office. In 2017 we built the first full CLT/heavy timber project in New York to house our fine woodworking and high-performance enclosure shops. Our Portland studio and shop purchase their energy from renewable sources and power their wood kilns using timber scraps. Having shops on both coasts helps us minimize our carbon footprint, allowing us to craft our timber spaces closer to the wood source or client site. Our offices have designated recycling areas for everything from paper to metal, to electronics.
USGBC and LEED
USGBC (United States Green Building Council) created LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) to measure and define what green building meant, and to provide a roadmap for developing sustainable buildings. With LEED, a baseline was established—a universally agreed upon holistic system for reducing environmental impact. As a long-standing member company of the USGBC, we were excited when LEED caught on in the early 2000s. As a long-standing member company of the USGBC, we’re happy to support those looking to achieve LEED. We can support projects designed/built to meet LEED eligibility through recycled content, resource reuse, FSC-certified material and chain-of-custody, and regional materials (where applicable). In other words — we’re here to support the folks who are looking to achieve LEED.
