Where can I purchase non-toxic interior wall panels near Laval, Quebec?
I live near Laval in QC and I am replacing wood panels in my basement due to a sewer backup situation. I have asthma and would like a lost cost non toxic wall panel, that can be installed direct to stud, for around $30 per sheet (4' X 7'). Is this realistic? I have discovered wood plastic composite materials on the web but can't seem to find suppliers in my area. What do you suggest?
If you’re doing basement repairs after a flood, before you start shopping for low VOC wall panels, make sure you don’t end up in the same situation again. Have you installed a sewage backup check valve? We would recommend that first, and we found a company in Quebec that developed a product we are very impressed with, it’s a 'smart' sewage backup valve that has sensors and a balloon in the sewer pipe, so when any discharge is detected it automatically inflates the balloon to block the pipe, then pings your phone to tell you about it. Then you should read this page about how to build basements properly –
Preventing mold when you insulate your basement
Using non-toxic building materials will help protect your indoor air quality, but most basements are built wrong unfortunately and end up rotten and moldy sometimes in a few short years, that would be the most toxic wall I can think of. For formaldehyde-free healthy finishing materials there are a few ways you could go about it, like raw wood, wood with natural finishing oil, synthetic drywall with low-dust drywall compound and zero VOC paint, and if you want a pre-finished formaldehyde-free wall panel you could try Columbia here. What was the brand name of the plastic composite panels you mentioned?
