There are different types of battery as you mention, Lithium Ion, Lead acid, Saltwater and even a Supercapacitor. As for making your own home battery, I assume you have the technical know how to pull that off or you wouldn’t suggest it since this is a little more ambitious than making one of those potato powered clocks : -) There is not much we can really help you with there short of pointing you at what is the most likely solution, which would be a cotton and saltwater home battery. Perhaps others may have some insight, and if not please keep us in the loop if you pin down a technology you plan to try and execute it.
