If the foundation wall has tyvek wrap will it trap moisture?
We have a house that's being built in the basement and the walls have ice and water.
theres tyvek then studs and insulation and plastic over top of this, there's moisture and ice and water inside on the insulation.
If you mean there is Tyvek against the foundation walls that's not a bad thing. It's not a 'great' thing as it is permable to moisture but its better than nothing. Basement construction usually goes bad when builders mistakenly think the moisture in the air is the problem when in reality its the ground and wet concrete that is the problem, read more here -
How to build and renovate basements so they don't develop mold
If you have a stud wall with insulation in the cavities and then a vapor barrier covering it, the vapor barrier is your problem. It's stopping the moisture from escaping where it can be handled by HRV systems. You will read in that page above about what is really going on in basements and why vapor barriers are the worst thing you can put on a basement wall. The problem you need to protect yourself from is not the moisture in the air, its the moisture in the walls. How far along are you with finshing the walls? If there is no drywall on it yet you would be best to remove all the poly barrier so the walls can dry out.
