Is it ok to decommission infloor heating?
I have a two story home built on concrete slab in 1998 in Alberta Canada. It has Kinec tubing although we have never had any leaks or problems. If I wanted to turn the infloor heating off (drain and disconnect) is that allowed in Alberta due to colder climate? We do have forced air heating and gas fires in the home. Thanks for any info on this
Switching heat sources for homes is generally no problem with municipalities, particularly if you already have an existing heat source. We are happy to help, but can you tell us the reason you are looking to disconnect it?
There are comfort and minor efficiency benefits with radiant heating, but forced air works fine. We would point out however, as the world transitions away from fossil fuel heating, it will not be going down in price. European countries have begun phasing out fossil fuel heating in homes so Canada and the US are likely not far behind. So you may be wise to look into heat pumps in the future, see here for finding the best heat pump for your home if you decide to switch our your forced air furnace.
